Recommended Hang Out

A small place on Khaosan Road I recommend for the budget traveler is the "D'café". It is a small place situated next to "The Club" I found it to be the cheapest place on the main strip for a few beers. The food is tasty and cheap and the staff members are very friendly. One downfall is the seats outside are wooden so your butt hurts after a while. It's a great place to people watch and also meet others who are chilling out. There are a couple of TV's inside though they have music playing so you can't hear them.

Shopping Extravaganza

When I was staying in Bangkok My friends and I decided to get our asses off of Khaosan Road and go into the city centre to do some shopping before we returned home. This saved us a lot of money and we got to see some of the city. We went to MBK shopping centre to buy clothes to take home and give for presents. The place is five huge floors of market stalls, shops, restaurants and cinemas. Compared to the price of clothes on Khaosan Road, I found MBK to be much cheaper and have a lot more choice. The stall owners spoke better English and were more reasonable to bargain with. We bought some great authentic Thai wooden plates and ornaments, clothes and of course some shoes. After going for some Sushi, We took a walk over to Siam Paragon for some window shopping and a Starbucks.

Local Restaurants & Mall

Just 5 minutes away from Khaosan Road is Central Mall. It's just over the bridge and straight on. It cost about 50 Baht in a taxi as long as you get it on the meter. I recommend going there because of its' choice of restaurants. It has some cool little coffee shops to relax in and you'll find a great sizzler restaurant on the 5th floor. It's a nice place to go if you want to get away from the noise of Khaosan. It also has a large cinema complex so you can take in a movie. If you go to the "Export shop" you can find some quality clothing for cheap. I bought several T-Shirts and boxer shorts while I was there. They cost me less than they would at Khaosan Road.

A Walk in the Park

While we were staying on Khaosan Road, My friends and I took a taxi up to Phuttamonthon Park. It is about 200 Baht in a taxi and a fair way from Khaosan. This is a huge green-grassed park with some historical temples which you can visit. I recommend taking some water as it is a huge place to walk around. It has a lot of history which you can look up in your lonely planet. There are plenty of beautiful trees to sit under and chill out. It was a place where we spent time together talking without any interruptions, a nice peaceful and casual day.
