Scuba diving Koh Tao - Thailand

Koh Tao, which means Turtle Island, is one of the most popular islands to go Scuba diving in Thailand. Its crystal clear waters and marine life make it the most favored destination of all who dive here. It is amongst the first sites in Thailand and most of the local economy is dependant on this trade so conservation is a priority.

It has multiple places for you to explore such as Nang Yuan pinnacle. There is a large boulder with swim-through arches and to the west a large cave.

At Green Rock dive site, there is a maze of swim-throughs, canyons, caverns and caves created by giant boulders. Mango bay is the perfect site for first time divers because of its' shallow reef and sandy bottom It is now accessible by land since a road was built through the jungle. Koh Tao has a vast array of marine and coral which are unique. Great Barracuda, Hawksbill turtles, Clown fish, Reef sharks, Leopard sharks, Puffers, Angel fish, Blue spotted ray, Manta, Stingrays and also you can witness the awesome sight of the Whale sharks. These fantastic creatures are worth the dive itself.

The huge boulders and rock formations around Koh Tao are covered with a variety of colorful hard and soft coral.

The most popular beaches on Koh Tao are Mae Haad, which is also the main village, Sairee Beach on the west and Chalok Baan Kao in the south. Accommodation ranges from simple thatch roof cabana-style bungalows to air-con bungalows, however living is still quite basic and you should expect electricity to run only through the night, even in the more luxurious rooms.

All the beaches on Koh Tao have a variety of restaurants, supermarkets and bars. ATM,s are now a common sight on Koh Tao along with convenience stores. Although nightlife relies on parties held on alternate nights by the few beach bars. Life is much more low-key than Koh Samui, especially since most people are up early to go diving!

Scuba Diving Koh Samui - Thailand

Koh Samui, is probably better known for its' exotic and exciting nightlife rather than diving but there are still some breathtaking dive sites there.

Sail rock is by far the most renowned of all places to dive. There is a rock pinnacle shaped like an iceberg which emerges from a sandy seabed at 40m to tower 15m above the surface. It is also a magnet for fish and there are schools of anemones and pink anemones. The plankton rich waters attract a huge diverse choice of marine life to the area. The sunlight naturally penetrates the water around Sail Rock so when you are doing the popular wall dive, this opens up an entire view of your swim through and its' surroundings which makes it safe for all level of divers. It is also a spot for magnificent Whale shark sightings. Manta Rays, Barracuda, Tuna, Reef sharks (which are harmless) all gather together over the hard and soft coral to give you the most amazing dive experience.

Other dive sites such as Koh Wao and Hin Yippon are also popular places to dive because of their shallow waters and fascinating marine life which makes them good spots for open water courses for first time divers.

Koh Wao has an average depth in this sheltered bay and is only 8 - 14 meters so it's a nice easy dive for the less experienced divers.

Hin Yippon located at the Northern most point of the Marine Park this Dive is not to be missed. Circumnavigating this small rock you'll find huge boulders forming fascinating swim thru's and alleyways that make perfect hiding places for large red snappers and groupers. Around the site you'll find large barrel sponges, numerous bushy corals and colourful sea fans, which make perfect shots for underwater photographers. The maximum depth here is 25 meters with a good average dive depth of 18 meters, which makes it an ideal site for novice and experienced divers alike.

Scuba Diving Similan Islands - Thailand

Similan Islands, are well with their rights to claim one of the best dive sites in South-East Asia. They consist of 9 islands which have an abundance of thriving reefs, delicate coral and mesmerizing marine life. One of the most popular dive sites for divers is Koh Bo. This island has a sheer wall 35 meters deep which is followed by a stepped ridge descending to 45 meters. Dive sites around the Similan Islands offer so much more than other diving areas in Thailand. Tunnel like caves and underwater passages can be explored around Elephant Head, East of Eden and Christmas point. These are great places for photographers who want to capture the peculiar species of different creatures that emerge from there holes and shells to present themselves willfully. Ghost pipefish, sea moths, frogfish, ribbon eels and nudibranches all smile happily smile for the underwater paparazzi. 30 - 40 m drops into gorges, caverns and a labyrinth of caves. Fantasea Reef is now available to dive as it was closed for regeneration for a while. It is arguably the best site to go Scuba Diving in the Similan Islands.

Scuba diving Krabi Province - Thailand

Krabi Province, has the widest range of dive sites in Thailand. Its diverse marine life, limestone outcrops and soft coral are strong pull for all experienced divers the world over. Ao Nang and Railay beach are the main sites on the mainland while you have a pleasurable choice of Phuket's Chalong Bay, Koh Lanta and the Phi Phi Islands of the coast of the mainland of Thailand. The greatest selection of dive centers are at Ao Nang beach as it has easy access to the main dive sites such Phi Phi, Shark point Marine Sanctuary, Hin Muang, Hin Daeng and the Koh Ha islands.

Shark Point Marine Sanctuary, which situated between Krabi, Phi Phi and Phuket, is a renowned group of 3 dive sites which are usually all dived together in a single trip. The King Cruiser Wreck can be explored. The 85 meter vessel run aground on Anemone reef in 1997 and sunk. The Anemone reef itself is a unique dive site with a huge limestone pinnacle soaring 30 meters from the seabed to just 4 meters beneath the surface. The site is famous for its plethora of sea anemones that cling to every surface while attracting enormous range of sea creatures. Different types of fish to be seen include schooling reef fish, trevally, snappers, groupers and colorful clown fish,  also larger game-fish such as tuna and barracuda. Leopard sharks are known to inhabit the area too. Another site that gives its' name Shark point is a reef that comprises three pinnacles, the largest of which can be sited above the surface as if it were a barren rock outcropping. The reef is inhabited by a fascinating collection of colorful soft corals and pulsating sea fans that brighten the limestone pinnacles, giving hoe to Morays, Sea Horses, schooling reef fish and more sizeable Pelagics.

Koh Lanta - Krabi Province

There is a wide choice of dive shops in and around the main tourist areas of Saladan Town and Klong Dao beach. Although there isn't a simple access route to the northern sites in Krabi, it is still near to some of the best dive sites in Thailand which are ranked top ten in the world. The underwater pinnacles of Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, and the Ko Ha Islands are visited by thousand of divers form the world over every year because of their stunning beauty. These sites are mainly reserved for more experienced divers because of the strong currents. By far the deepest wall dive in Thailand and the intricate underwater caverns are frequently visited by Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, an enormous variety of fringing reefs, as well as pelagic and reef fish.
