Living in Bangkok.

Life in Bangkok can be great or it can be difficult depending on your circumstance but I think this applies to any major city in the world. It has plenty of traffic problems and pollution. For someone who comes to teach in Bangkok, life can be difficult if you are situated far from your school though public transport is very cheap. Bangkok has a fantastic nightlife and an endless amount of places to go and eat. Whereas in the West we have a "Pub Culture" in Thailand it is a "Restaurant Culture" as Thais love to eat and spend time with friends and families. Food is incredibly cheap if you eat in the right places especially compared to prices in the West. Most Thai people eat out because of the cost of food. If you choose to buy a meal at the market place or street venders the prices vary from 25 Baht to 45 Baht per meal. Usually your meal is tasty traditional Thai food. If you would like to eat international food then going to commercial places will set you back a lot more though not s much as you think. After finding their feet in Bangkok, most teacher's tend to find their own favourite places to go which are away from the commercial hubs and they see another side of Bangkok which most are afraid to go out and discover. Accommodation in Bangkok can be very cheap and affordable depending on which area you live in. In the Suburbs such as Pin Klao, Talin Chan and Bang Khae, Studio apartments can be priced at 4000-5000 Baht per month ( around 100 pound British sterling) whereas a 2-3 bedroom townhouse will be about the same. If you want to lead the high life downtown, then you can double or treble the price. Most schools will provide or will know about this kind of accommodation for teachers who have just arrived. Your CELTA, TEFL,TESOL Teaching courses are the ticket to your career and life in Bangkok.
